Reference Photo Guidelines

I work from photos, so good, clear images that show details are important for achieving a realistic likeness. For best results, send photos:

  • Taken at the pet’s eye level, ideally not looking down at the pet.

  • Taken in natural light, no harsh shadows.

  • Relatively close distance.

  • Show the cat or dog’s eyes clearly.

  • Show hair and or fur detail and color.

  • Send more than one photo showing the pet in different poses or activities.

  • Write a short description of your fur person’s personality and favorite things.

My process — I will review your photos, and we will choose a suitable one. I will then edit it for color and clarity (if needed), enlarge it, and send it back to you for approval. Be advised that not all photos taken with a phone will be clear when enlarged.

I reserve the right to decline a commission if it appears I won’t be able to produce a realistic, beautiful painting from your reference photo.
